Watch: Lion moms unleash their fury as wild dogs target cubs

The intense rivalry between wild dogs and lions means neither hesitates to kill the other’s young. Here is what happened when a pack of wild dogs came across two lion cubs.

In nature, predators rarely miss a chance to eliminate potential rivals. Two weeks ago, Mark Whiley came close to witnessing this first-hand when a pack of wild dogs targeted a pair of lion cubs in the Kruger National Park.

According to a YouTube video by Latest Sightings, Whiley followed the wild dogs’ journey on the S25 until they reached the junction with the S26.

“Mark could make something out ahead of the pack, just past a low-level bridge, but it was hard to see exactly what it was until they got closer. Then, the dogs took off.

“It turned out to be two lion cubs on the road, all by themselves, and the wild dogs didn’t think twice about running to grab them. Lions never miss an opportunity to eliminate a wild dog, which makes lions one of their worst enemies. This means that when wild dogs have the chance to grab a lion cub, they certainly won’t miss it either,” the video’s description reads.
